well, wow

It's been awhile, said the girl to her blog.

The blog had nothing to say.

Last year at this time I stepped into the classroom to teach American literature for a semester. My writing goals were sidelined. I felt guilty and apathetic. Mostly apathetic. I still haven't finished a book which was the entire point of this blog: to chronicle actually writing a book, to force a small bit of accountability. I am too good at secret projects, secret goals. Do not tell anyone that you want to bake the perfect shortbread and you're less likely to feel like a failure when yours burns.

Except: you know your failure.

And it does burn.

So here I am. I just finished an entire month of writing daily. That's right: I wrote every single day this past January. Secret goal. But I did it! And so I'll post this: I want to write every single day of February too. Not a secret goal because it's out here in blogland.

I thought about responding to my Summer Writing Goals. I don't think I'll bother. I did write. I did revise. I had my writing dates. But I didn't finish all I wanted to finish. Meaning: I'd have a very very short book, if I called my revised stories my book. Like, maybe fifty pages. But I met some characters I am not willing to abandon to a draft.

So here I am again. I will try to post once a week. We shall see how that goes. At least I am back.
